stuck centos07 after nvidia commuter installation

Hello,

I ran into the same trouble to CentOS seven w/Gnome hangs on kicking after Nvidia driver installation?
after I followed https://gist.github.com/frengky/6bd5835491be40184760 to update my drivers. Except it asked questions about dkms and X to which I said yes to like the person says in the previous link.
How tin can I re-boot to get out of the stuck kernel image to ready the problem without erasing annihilation? When I kick I see several options similarity to what this person is describing except none of the linux kernels (simply a windows works fine) open a desktop https://access.redhat.com/discussions/3550251 I'k not sure if there was an additional upshot considering the drive was partitioned with gnome or if its simply that I installed the driver wrong for this linux but after the second reboot https://gist.github.com/frengky/6bd5835491be40184760 its stuck?

Can you use Ctrl-Alt-F2 to switch terminals and get to a command line login prompt? If you can, login as root and reverse what you did. The nvidia .run file has a -uninstall or --uninstall option (and a --help if I got them both wrong).

Thank you, I uninstalled the new nvidia and have a normal desktop once more!
It says information technology failed to restore the fill-in configuration for nvidia-xconfig only nvidia-smi looks fine but which cuda returns no cuda in .. even though its still where it was installed and exported in the bash file.
Is in that location a fashion to update it this nvidia directly? I can't find the .run file for the working version of nvidia with locate or whereis

I restarted it again later on and now its stuck on reboot over again.

OK probably a dumb question but WHY haven't you used kmod-nvidia to update your nvidia drivers?? As to WHY you got stuck again the reply is that within the by day or two the kernel was upgraded to 3.10.0-1062.7.1.el7.x86_64 from 3.10.0-1062.4.3.el7.x86_64. . This all the same another reason to use kmod-nvidia --vs-- installing the nvidia commuter from nvidia. The manner you lot are doing it is really One-time Schoolhouse as that was the way I use to do it dorsum when kernel 2.one was out.... and it was a giant PITA equally you lot would accept to go through that aforementioned routine every time a new kernel came out -- it was a Giant time waster.

IF you have a legitimate reason that you take to become the old school road, then you have take to do it; that said information technology might be worth the effort to go the kmod-nvidia route and save yourself a lot of headaches.

Thank you, I tried yum install kmod-nvidia-440xx.x86_64 nvidia-x11-drv-440xx.x86_64 nvidia-detect.x86_64
followed by reboot but I can see with nvidia-smi that the onetime version of the commuter is nonetheless being used. Is this the right manner to apply knod? If i run it again it says

No package kmod-nvidia-440xx.x86_64 available.
No package nvidia-x11-drv-440xx.x86_64 available.
Packet nvidia-detect-440.36-one.el7.elrepo.x86_64 already installed and latest version
Naught to exercise

ELRepo'due south packet is not called kmod-nvidia-440xx, information technology's called kmod-nvidia and the version number is currently 440.36-1.el7_7.elrepo then what you need to install is kmod-nvidia.
